Experienced Employment Law Attorney in New Mexico
Protecting the Rights of Domestic Workers
If you’re a domestic worker in New Mexico, providing a range of services in private homes, there’s good news. The New Mexico legislature amended the state’s Minimum Wage Act in 2019, eliminating the longstanding exemption that prohibited domestic workers from the minimum wage and overtime requirements that apply to other workers. As of June, 2019, all domestic workers are entitled to minimum wage and can seek overtime under the state’s wage and hour laws. Domestic employers are required to keep accurate records, and to pay domestics in full and in a timely manner.
If you provide services in someone else’s home, as a housekeeper, caregiver or other domestic, and you are not being paid a minimum wage or overtime, we can help.
At Buchanan Law Firm, LLC we have more than two decades of experience handling a broad range of employment law matters, including wage and hour disputes. Our principal offices are in Albuquerque, but we can arrange to meet with you in person anywhere in New Mexico.
